Analysis of Rotating Shadowband Spectroradiometer (RSS) Data

چکیده
(a) The RSS optical resolution is nonlinear over the spectrum: for a 512-pixel instrument d/dpixel = 0.3 nm at 350 nm, 1 nm at 500 nm, broadening to ≈ 4 nm at 1 μm. We have an improved version in test at Atmospheric Sciences Research Center (ASRC) that doubles the number of pixels to 1024, with commensurate improvement in resolution. technique used by the MFRSR, and so it too provides spectrally resolved direct-normal, diffuse-horizontal, and total-horizontal irradiances, and can be calibrated in situ via Langley regression.

A rotating shadowband spectroradiometer (RSS) operating in the spectral range between 350 to 1050 nm obtained measurements of direct and diffuse components of spectral irradiance during the first diffuse irradiance IOP in the autumn of 2001. Independent measurements of the primary inputs to spectral irradiance models, including aerosol optical depth, water vapor column, and ozone column measure...
متن کاملColumn Water Vapor from Diffuse Irradiance
A possibility of measuring water vapor column from diffuse irradiance, and thus the extension of optical retrievals to cloudy days, was investigated. The data from the Rotating Shadowband Spectroradiometer (RSS) during its winter deployment at the North Slope of Alaska (NSA) site is used. The initial analysis covers 20 days in March 1999 that include clear, partly cloudy, and overcast days. Dur...

متن کاملComparison of Spectral Direct and Diffuse Solar Irradiance Measurements and Calculations for Cloud-Free Conditions
The comparison of spectral measurements and calculations provides an excellent foundation for analyzing the ability of models to compute the solar irradiance absorbed in the atmosphere. Since molecular absorption bands have distinctive spectral signatures, the absence of an atmospheric absorber in a model would result in spectral measurement-model residuals qualitatively different from those ca...
متن کاملPhotosynthetically active radiation from Clouds and the Earth’s Radiant Energy System (CERES) products
[1] We describe a method that retrieves surface photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) and its direct and diffuse components from the Surface and Atmospheric Radiation Budget (SARB) product of Clouds and the Earth’s Radiant Energy System (CERES). The shortwave spectrum in the SARB Edition 2 is calculated in 15 bands, 4 of which are used to develop the PAR, in conjunction with the look-up tab...
